What makes us do things?

Catching the bus home today, there was a this little boy about 7. He was just about shoving his finger up his nose into his brain cavity, happily digging for treasure.

Did I stop staring? Nope... all I could was hold back my laughter, and continue to watch the lad dig, dig, and examine his treasures, flicking them towards the bus driver.

At some point, the lad found gooey treasure... admittingly this was finally enough to make me look away. But did I look again? Yes, yes I did... as he sat there, no longer digging, just sitting there with his finger up his nose.

So in light of this event, I have but two questions:

What makes us pick our nose in public?
What makes us continue staring at disgusting and/or horrific events?

Hey! What's wrong with picking one's nose? (not in public, of course.) I also sniff my underwear just before I put it in the laundry. Just to say "ew" and make a face. The problem begins when one starts picking other people's noses, I think... As for sniffing other people's underwear, I suppose it's all a matter of taste... *hihihi*
